Record the dimensional envelope
Measure the full ring setting, earring pair, pendant with chain or watch case and crown. Note which parts protrude, flex or need clearance. Do not convert a source-listed box size into usable internal space unless that meaning is independently confirmed.
Map placement and contact
Draw the intended presentation view. Identify the jewelry surfaces that touch the insert and any edges that need separation. For an assortment, map each item independently; a single large compartment does not establish that the pieces remain separated.
Review removal and replacement
Use the selected sample to check how a buyer, retail employee or end customer lifts the item out and puts it back. This is a physical review, not a promise that a pictured design has a tested retention feature.
Keep material selection and fit together
The documented insert description can start the discussion, but the actual quoted material and jewelry contact requirements need agreement. Avoid attaching performance or environmental claims to an insert purely because it looks soft or paper-based.
